Porsche has unveiled it’s new GT3 which features new lighting all around, new front and rear fascias, and a redesigned spoiler. Engine has been enlarged to 4.0L producing 435hp, larger brakes and a host of other changes to improve it’s performance. Surprises include active engine mounts that firm up for sport driving.
The 2011 Carrera and 2012 Boxster were caught in disguised form during cold weather testing near the artic circle. The rumors are the Boxster contains an engine totally new to Porsche – a horizontally opposed turbocharged four-cylinder.
All the attention has been on reviews with cars featuring the new PDK transmission. However, Inside Line just posted a review of the new C4S with the standard 6-speed manual transmission. The 2009 car still benefits from all the changes – Direct Injection engines, new all-wheel drive system from the 997 Turbo, and the facelift changes on the exterior.
North American Porsche sales totaled 27,717, down from 36,680 in 2007 – a decrease of 24%. 911 and Boxster/Cayman sales were down by about 1/3, but Cayenne sales were only down 11%. For December, Porsche sold 2,154 cars compared to 2,891 last year.
On Google Map’s Street View feature, a bunch of Porsche prototypes were caught on the road in Colorado. You definitely see the 2009 Boxster and Caymans, and what looks to be a 2009 911 at the top. You can use the ASDW buttons to move the view.
After their review of the 911 Cabrio, Inside Line follows up with a review of the new Cayman S – also featuring direct injection engines with a dual-clutch gearbox.
Again they praise the transmission for it’s smoothness and balance, although conclude that the price of the transmission is better spent on other options.
Inside Line has a review and video of the new Carrera S Cab with PDK. They liked the increase in output in the new powertrain and mating it with the new dual-clutch transmission has really impressed them.
